How the progress estimate works
The Reading Time Estimator helps you plan your reading sessions. Based on the median reading speed of about 299 minutes per book, you can estimate how long a given title will take.
The catalog includes books of varying lengths, from quick reads to marathon-length epics. Use the estimator to find a book that fits your available time, whether you have an hour or a whole week.

Use quick, steady, immersive, or marathon to match your reading pace. Most books fall into the immersive category, but a few are quick reads.
Estimate a Specific Title
Select a book and see its word count and estimated reading minutes. For example, a 73,889-word book might take about 322 minutes to read.
Using the Reading Tracker: Planning Your Progress
The Reading Tracker is a simple tool that helps you plan how many pages to read each day. It records your progress in pages, not sections or minutes, and it uses your word count to estimate a total page count. You can set a daily page goal and see how many days it will take to finish the book.
How the Page Count Is Estimated
When the catalog does not provide a fixed page count, the tracker estimates the total pages by dividing the word count by 250, the configured words per page. For example, The Incendiary: A Story of Mystery — A Closer Reading has 130,885 words, which gives an estimated total of about 524 pages. This is a rough estimate, but it provides a starting point.
You can replace that estimate with the total page count shown by your own reading app or edition. Many ebooks display a different number of pages depending on font size, margins, and device. By entering your actual total, the tracker can give you a more accurate picture of your progress.
Setting a Daily Goal
The default daily goal is 20 pages, but you can change it to anything that fits your schedule. If you set a goal of 20 pages per day, The Incendiary would take about 27 days to finish (524 pages divided by 20). If you increase the goal to 30 pages, it would take about 18 days. The tracker calculates the estimated finish days by dividing the remaining pages by your daily goal, rounding up to the nearest whole day.
The estimated remaining time is proportional to the pages you have left. If you have read half the book, the tracker will show that you have about half the estimated minutes left, based on the original reading time estimate. This is useful for planning when you might finish.
Tracking Your Progress
Progress history is stored in your browser's localStorage, so you do not need an account. The tracker remembers your current page and updates as you read. You can see how many pages you have completed and how many remain, which can be motivating.
One thing to keep in mind: the tracker does not record sections or minutes as progress. It is page-based, so you need to know what page you are on. If you are reading an ebook, that is easy to check.
